Welcome to Project 081

Welcome to Project 081! The sequel to The81Project. It is an unofficial WIP patcher by Apple fans which can allow Mac OS X version 10.4 to run on Early 2008 Apple Macintosh computers. Below is a list of not-so-FAQ that you may find useful!

Is my Mac compatible?

To know if your Mac is compatible with this unofficial distro, click the Apple logo in the-
menu bar and click About this Mac. If your model is listed as "Early 2008", you can most likely use this tool, although compatibility is not perfect! More information

Will this patch void my 13 year warranty?

Well, this one is just a joke, unless you actually have a warranty that somehow lasts for 13 years.
Technically, yes but why would Apple enforce such a dumb rule! Even then, Apple never offered a 13 year long warranty so either way: your warranty is void!

All about running Mac OS X Tiger on 2008 Macs!

How do I install?

Installing is and will always be the hardest part.
We made sure to make it as simple and easy as possible, at least for an unofficial project like this one.

Once you've created a USB flash drive that has Project 081 on it, you'll need to power on your Mac while holding the Option key. Plug the USB drive in and boot from it. It should be named Project 081.
Otherwise don't boot. From there, if you reach the installer, install as normal. Patches will automatically be applied. You don't need to do anything after the installation.

Who made this  ̶t̶e̶r̶r̶i̶b̶l̶e̶  project?

This project was made by speedie, originally just planned to support one Mac, the early 2008 one, hence the old name and logo. However, for the full credits which probably still doesn't include everyone (sorry), click here!

How is this distributed?

In order to install this unofficial patch, you'll of course need to download the patch itself. However, the patch is not distributed by itself due to how specific of an image you need.

To fix this, we're simply distributing close to vanilla versions of Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger with the patches applied. When you boot from the USB, it will decide what patches are required.

How do I make a installer?

In order to create an installer which is a bootable USB which can be used to install Project 081 on your unsupported Macs in addition to officially supported Macs (no patches will be applied), you'll need some software. If you're running Mac OS X, you can use Apple's Disk Utility to restore an image. Or if you are running Linux, Windows or simply prefer this method, you can use balenaEtcher. Lastly, for Windows users, you may also use TransMac if you want. I prefer the other methods though.

What tools were used to make this?

There has been a lot of tools in use throughout development and i'm definitely going to miss some but here goes.  Clover was used with The81Project, the older more unstable version of this, TextEdit and vanilla kexts to patch stuff, etc.

How often do you update it?

I update the project whenever I feel like doing it, unless there's an important update that needs to be made or a major patch has been made. If you need me to update it, contact me.

How can you contact me?

You can contact me using my Project 081 email which can be found at the top. Otherwise, my Discord tag is speedie#8260. You can also message me on Twitter and on GitHub (speediegamer, p081)

Do you offer your patches?

I used to but unfortunately, it's too complicated.
Since they're only useful for Tiger anyway, use Project 081 instead.

Do not recommend that you use these, only here to make things complete!

Project 081 is an unofficial project by speedie which allows you to install Mac OS X on Unsupported Penryn Macs.
It uses features including the base OS from Apple's 10.4.10 Tiger image distributed on CD/DVDs. Tiger is considered abandonware since it's no longer being sold.
